Dr habil. Lavinia Brancusi (Brâncuși)

Lavinia is an Associate Professor at Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Law Studies in Warsaw.

Her habilitation monograph ‘EU Trade Mark Law and Product Protection: A Comparative Analysis of Trade Mark Functionality’ (Routledge 2023) won the IPKat ‘Best Book on Trade Mark Law in 2023’ award.

She held her law degrees at Warsaw University, Faculty of Law (Dr. iur., Master’s degree in Law) with an awarded doctoral dissertation in design law.

Lavinia advises in all matters related to product protection at all stages of proceedings, with a specific focus on designs, non-traditional trademarks and trade dress.

Previously to joining Rasiewicz & Associates, Lavinia has been counselling to leading Polish IP law firms in Warsaw since 2011.

She is an acknowledged IP scholar in Poland and abroad and a frequently invited speaker at conferences and workshops. Her publications are most influential and opinion-forming, including a reference made by the Advocate General of the CJUE in Doceram C- 395/16.
